Cheque Presentation to NCI Mablethorpe
National Coastwatch Trustee Mike Newbold is photographed presenting a Start up cheque to Acting Deputy Station Manager, Bill Watson, of Mablethorpe watched by two of the local Town councillors. The location was the public meeting being held to launch National Coastwatch Mablethorpe.
NCI Mablethorpe is the 42nd NCI station to be established, around the coastof Britain, and the second in Lincolnshire; the first being Skegness (Winthorpe) which was established in 2004.
The meeting took place at The Montalt Arms, Mablethorpe, and was well attended, by 40 local people; friends from the Mablethorpe Coastguard who have kindly offered support with training. A Volunteer force of 25 persons have applied for training, but more are required: Anyone from 18 to 85 can apply. The team now start training in year round beach safety surveillance by Spotting, Reporting and Plotting incidents with an aim to commence basic uniformed training watches by Easter.
East Lindsey District Council has rented the group a Beach Chalet on the Promenade, far from ideal but it is a start. This they have to get equipped and ready prior to the Bank holiday. Skegness Coastwatch Senior Staff are generously donating their spare time to train the group to an operational level.

The ELDC Chalet rented to the Group at Mablethope
The National Coastwatch Mablethorpe team are starting fund raising even before they start watching because they are establishing a completely new station. The station is busy looking for equipment such as binoculars, telescopes and a barometer. Any help with sponsorship, donations, offers of help or further volunteers will be gratefully received: Contact Bill Watson on 01507 472037 |
